Ultrasonic Testing and Dye Testing

Ultrasonic testing is an integral part of Rome’s total capabilities. Our fully computerized immersion tank measures 16’ x 50’ feet, and we also offer contact ultrasonic testing capabilities.

But the thing that really sets us apart from other companies isn’t our sonic testing equipment; it’s our knowledge. We have exceptional in-house expertise, including a Level III qualified supervisor on every sonic job. This provides our customers with the assurance that their job will be done right, the first time, and every time.

The U.S. Government needed that kind of assurance on the critical B-1B Bomber project. That’s why they chose Rome to sonic test all 100-center sections used in the airplane’s fuselage.

In fact, we sonic tested the large grade 6-4 titanium plates which originally measured 1.60” thick, 60” wide and 650” long, before we saw cut them into sections. This allowed us to detect any rejectable areas and avoid them during the saw cutting operation. Dye penetrate inspection is routinely used to detect surface defects on both ground and cut surfaces.
