Surface Grinding
 Rome has nine custom designed gantry type abrasive belt grinders.
All are equipped with state of the art touch screen computer controls.
A variety of abrasive grits can be utilized to remove scale, oxide and surface defects, or to perform close tolerance polishing.
Among Romes abrasive belt grinders is the largest computerized belt grinder in the country.
It enables us to work on plates from 3/16 to 18 thick on its massive 18 x 60 bed.
When one customer needed close tolerance titanium plates - - the largest ever manufactured in the U.S. - - we provided a defect-free 100 RMS finish over the entire 150 x 255 plate with a flatness tolerance of .020 per foot in a six-inch gasket area on both the top and bottom surfaces.
